FREE insulation – no need to be on benefits or over 70

Martin Lewis, at MoneySavingExpert.com has found some great free offers. They could knock £300 off your fuel bill each year.

EDF offers free cavity wall insulation and loft insulation to everyone.

You do not need to be an EDF customer; your age does not matter; and you do not need to receive a benefit.

The offer is for households who have an unfilled cavity wall and/or a loft with less than 60mm of existing insulation. EDF must be able to insulate at least two-thirds of the loft area or wall area.  If your property is large, or needs specialist equipment, there will be a charge. You could always book a survey and then decide.

EDF warn that there may be a delay if the scheme is very popular. They will review the offer after the first 200,000 applications. More information, and how to apply,  here.

British Gas offers free insulation to its customers

Any British Gas electricity, gas or Homecare customer can apply for free cavity wall and loft insulation. There are similar conditions to the offer from EDF. Ring 0800 980 8177 or register on the web site.

Free insulation through other fuel companies and other suppliers

Anyone in receipt of certain benefits and anyone over 70, living in their own home or renting privately, is entitled to free insulation. Martin Lewis mentions that Tesco Home Efficiency give 2,500 Tesco Clubcard points if you apply through them before 31 December 2011.
