Emergency Warmth

For some households, losing heating and hot water is a crisis that damages health. Emergency Warmth helps them to cope.

Emergency Warmth is a prompt response where the health of a vulnerable household is at risk, following the loss of heating and/or hot water. We may be able to loan temporary heating and to arrange for a prompt visit by a contractor.

Emergency Warmth operates in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire Moorlands and Newcastle-under-Lyme.

In the rest of Staffordshire, a similar service operates, until further notice, with limited funding from the Department of Health. The service is run by the home Improvement Agencies. We can take referrals and pass on urgent requests for help.

The service is by referral only – from health, social care and voluntary agencies. To make a referral, contact us by telephone on 01782 683813; or by fax on 01782 683814; or email us.

Members of the public are welcome to contact us direct for advice and support where a cold home is making their health worse. We will do our best to find help, but local and national resources are increasingly limited.

Beat the Cold is grateful for the support of NHS Stoke-on-Trent, NHS North Staffordshire and npower Health Through Warmth.

Emergency Warmth is a valuable service…A single intervention can effectively generate savings equivalent to the whole year running costs [of the project].
