Residents of Stafford Borough have a new scheme to reduce the cost of installing solar pv. Stafford Area Community Solar has been set up by Sustainability Matters in partnership with MEB Total and is supported by Stafford Borough Council.
Purchasers of solar pv have to make a substantial investment in the panels, but they then receive a payment, called the Feed-In Tariff, for every unit of electricity that their system generates. This FiT is guaranteed for 25 years, tax free and inflation proofed.
The government is expected to reduce the FiT to 21p. Even at this reduced rate, householders may achieve an annual return on their investment in solar pv of more than 7% according to Sustainability Matters.
